A Day in the life of Mom

As long as I could remember Mom was ALWAYS up before us all each morning, perfectly dressed and working around the house. I remember sleeping on the couch on Cherry Street (which was my bedroom) and waking up to her ironing clothes in the dining room. She also had a wringer washer on the back porch/Marty's room in the summer time (it was a sleeping porch) where I helped her do the laundry (I loved to turn the wringer!) and then I helped Mom hang out the clothes on the clothes line in the back yard. Our house was ALWAYS perfectly clean, neat and nicely decorated. Mom loved furnitue, slip cover's, bedspreads she was always shopping the Sears, Montgomery Wards, Bellas Hess and Aldens catalogs for the new decor style. We also shopped at Ellis furniture store (she loved new furniture) to get new furniture made Mom happy.
To round up 6 kids to get ready for school was quite amazing with 1 bathroom. She would start with Barbara (Barbara always got up on her own) then Marty, then she would say "Marilyn and Kaye, one of you better get up now if you want to get in the bathroom! Then Galen (who hated getting up) and then Thurman. Then she would hand us each 25 cents for lunch (this was on Main Street) and out the door. I bet Mom collasped in a chair after we left!
When we arrived home after school all the laundry was neatly folded up and placed on the steps to go up stairs. We each had a step. The house was always clean and sometimes we had fresh baked cookies and pies.
Around 4:00 Mom would get ready to go to work (yes, work after working all day and she babysat everyday with Shelley-she loved having Shelley with her during the day) then her and Dad would go to the buildings to clean until about 8:00 and then they would go to the grocery stores to clean until 11:00 or 12:00 at night. Then the next day it started over again!
