When Halloween is upon us it always brings back such fond memories for me. I remember Trick or Treating for UNICEF. We were given the little milk cartons at grade school. I was in the 1st and 2nd grades on Cherry Street 1958-1959, The night before Halloween we would dress up in our costumes and go Trick or Treating for UNICEF. Up and down Cherry and Austin Streets all over the neighborhood by ourselves! Unheard of today. I think the excitement and fun was to see who could get their little milk carton full the fastest! I also saw those pictures of kids like me with no food or clean water I wanted to help them. The other fun thing was we got to dress up twice for Halloween so we could wear different outfits!
I also remember our grade school Halloween parties. Marilyn and I would leave school at lunch time and walk home to Cherry Street to put on our costumes. We would then walk the back streets and as we called it "the long way around" to get back to school for the party immediately after lunch.
Walking the long way around we thought no one would know who we were in our costumes when we got to the party! What wonderful times and memories!

Make Halloween Count

Today, we’re kicking off the Halloween season and hope that this year you’ll make Halloween count by Trick-or-Treating for UNICEF.

For 59 years, kids, adults, schools and corporations have been raising money for UNICEF—over $140 million to date. But it’s not enough… 24,000 children are dying every day from preventable causes. Together we have the power to bring that number to zero! By Trick-or-Treating for UNICEF, we can get water, education and medicine to the kids who need it most.

Our UNICEF Ambassador and Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF spokesperson, Selena Gomez will be on Live! With Regis and Kelly and the Today show on October 2nd supporting Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF. Please check your local listings for times and stations. She’ll be doing so much for us throughout the month, so check back often for updates on all the exciting things we have planned.

Whether you’re young or young at heart, getting involved is easy and fun! Whether you use our famous orange collection boxes, create a personal online fundraising page, host a Halloween party to benefit UNICEF or “text to treat” with your mobile phone, you’ll be helping us get closer to zero! As if it couldn’t get easier, everything you need to help with your fundraising activities can be found in our download center.

Join us on Facebook and Twitter for Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF updates throughout the month of October, and share the news with everyone in your network by inviting them to make Halloween count this year!

Get started now because Halloween will be here before you know it!
